About US

Action Research in Community Health and Development (known as ARCH or ARCH-Vahini) has been working in the tribal areas of Gujarat from 1980 in the fields of health, education, tribals land & forest resource rights and tribal development.

In remote villages in southern and eastern Gujarat, poor families struggle against limited access to health care and quality education. Complex political and economic forces threaten their rights to their land and other natural resources. ARCH is dedicated to improving the lives of the tribal population through grassroots action and community-level research in health, education and their rights and development.

Our constructive activities to better Read More

the lives of poor people in rural Gujarat have flourished into a tangible piece of social change, but we never lose sight of our final goal – the well-being of individuals. A non-compromising individualism is at the core of action. For us, human being is a measure of all things.

ARCH has been a journey of both ideas and activities. Working together on both types of issues – health and education on the one hand and advocacy for the rights of the marginalised on other hand – is one of the main highlights of our work. Other highlight is - we focus on the concrete issues /problems that we take up, and do whatever is required, of course, within the constitutional limits, for the actual solutions of these issues.
